The Love of God
29 Oct 2007
I’ll admit, it’s not often that I’m moved by worship while I’m busy running lights or mediashout or whatever else… but this morning I was struck by just how profound the words to the hymn The Love of God are, in particular the third verse. I just wanted to share those words with anyone who may still check by once in a while.
The love of God is greater far
Than tongue or pen can ever tell;
It goes beyond the highest star,
And reaches to the lowest hell;
The guilty pair, bowed down with care,
God gave His Son to win;
His erring child He reconciled,
And pardoned from his sin.
When years of time shall pass away,
And earthly thrones and kingdoms fall,
When men, who here refuse to pray,
On rocks and hills and mountains call,
God’s love so sure, shall still endure,
All measureless and strong;
Redeeming grace to Adam’s race—
The saints’ and angels’ song.
Could we with ink the ocean fill,
And were the skies of parchment made,
Were every stalk on earth a quill,
And every man a scribe by trade,
To write the love of God above,
Would drain the ocean dry.
Nor could the scroll contain the whole,
Though stretched from sky to sky.
O love of God, how rich and pure!
How measureless and strong!
It shall forevermore endure
The saints’ and angels’ song.

That has always been a favorite song of mine. I have felt so blessed over the last several days to know the love of God. He is faithful, he is my Rock, He is my everything. I thank Him for what He is doing in my life and the lives of those who surround me. I am so thankful that God reveals Himself to you, my Son, and that you are open to hearing from Him. What more can a Mom ask for??
Much Love Always, Momma

Thanks for sharing that bit of inspiration. Each night I ride my bike for 7 or 8 miles along the beach and I spend those 30 minutes or so in fellowship with God )often praying for you I might add). I think my next ride will be blessed when I ride near that vast ocean and remember the words you just reminded me of. It is always a blessing to read the words of your heart and to see Jesus in those expressions.
I’m proud of you! Dad

That’s the first time I read this poem, it’s beatiful
Verse 3 reminded me of God’s Words in the Quran:
“And if all the trees on earth were pens and the ocean (were ink), with seven oceans behind it to add to its (supply), yet would not the Words of God be exhausted: for God is Exalted in Power, full of Wisdom.” (Quran – 31:27)
If this hymn had an audio file online I’d love to listen to it! Thanks for sharing.
